The New Rebak Island Resort Manager –Ravi Nischal arrived on the Island late January and is proving to be very pro- active and yacht friendly so we are hoping to see many changes for the better taking place at Rebak Island Marina over the coming months.

Anzac Day - lbss

One of the great things Ravi has done so far was agree to a Commemoration Ceremony be held on the Resort beach at Dawn on Anzac Day, 25th April. This is of particular interest to Australians and New Zealanders and was attended by approximately 40 people from both the Resort and Yachting community including several current or ex Service people from around the world. A short reading explaining the significance of ANZAC Day in remembering those who gave their lives for their countries and the meaning of the Gallipoli landings was done by Graeme from the yacht Viannika followed by the Ode being read by Barry from the yacht Evolution NT. To close the Commemoration Ceremony and as the sun rose, the Last Post was then played followed by a traditional tot of rum supplied by the Rebak Management with their compliments. Approximately 30 people then shared in an excellent breakfast in the Resort. All in all it was a very moving ceremony and one that Rebak Management propose to continue in future years. See pictures above.

Mary then decided that there were not enough functions for Yachties to get together and meet, so she organised with the Resort Management to have a Pot Luck Dinner in SY69 on May 2nd. Everyone was requested to bring along a dish of food to share and their drinks of choice, glasses and crockery for personal use. The Resort supplied the venue, an esky of ice and lighting. Approximately 45 people attended, everyone contributed food, with a large number of unusual and delicious dishes available to sample and a great evening was had by all.

The unanimous decision was that yachtie community ‘get togethers’ are a welcome addition to daily marina life and should happen more often. All ideas are welcomed!

Best regards
Alan Tatton

TIPS FOR PREPARING YOUR YACHT FOR SALE

targa-96-for-sale-langkawi-boat-brokerage (1)

There are things that you can do that will give you an advantage over most other boat sellers, specifically make sure that your yacht has ‘ Curb Appeal ‘ and will present well. Too many boat owners, particularly with older boats, put the boat in a Marina, call up a Broker to list the boat and sit back and expect it to sell quickly. This dosen’t often happen in a competitive market, even with a steep discount on the asking price. As a minimum make sure that your boat is cleaner than she’s ever been before you put her on the market, particularly the heads, bilges and engine spaces. If your boat is dirty or messy, female buyers, wives, or partners almost always have the power to veto and they will use if the cleanliness is not up to standard. Bring a female friend in for an honest assessment on how to make your yacht more attractive to a woman. You don’t have to carry out all suggestions however listen carefully and don’t skimp on colourful cushions and bedspreads, a vase of flowers or a good picture of your boat sailing or at anchor in an exotic location. Men care about mechanical things and factual information. Make sure the engine is running smoothly and the engine room is orderly, all sails and systems are in good repair and working as nobody is interested in buying somebody else’s problems. If you have the most recent survey available, as well as maintenance records, it’s going to make you look more caring and responsible which is a good thing.

Try to find as many sisterships for sale as possible and do a comparison check of your own to see how your yacht stacks up. Pretend you are a buyer and see which boat you would pick.

TIPS FOR A QUICK SALE

Take a look at our 5 Top Tips to give your boat the best chance of a quick Sale!

1.SET THE RIGHT ASKING PRICE!

It is essential to set a realistic initial asking price to attract that all important buyer.

Most vendors realize that in today’s market they will almost always be made an offer below the asking price. LBSS will assist you in the final pricing of your yacht by checking other Brokers selling the same make and model as yours and through YachtWorld we have exclusive access to Sold Boat data on over 450,000 boats.

It is a delicate balance to achieve a fair and viable selling price; we will work with you to achieve this!

2.CHECK THE COMPETITION!

There will be many other similar types of boats for sale so it is important to make sure that your boat stands out for all the right reasons.

The listing Brokerage won’t necessarily be the deciding factor for a buyer – it’s all about the Boat, so you have to ensure that your boat stands up to the competition in Presentation and Price!

3.FEATURES!

Make sure to include all the features of the boat in the specifications and photographs. Buyers want detail and will decide whether to take the next step based on the Inventory and Description. You cannot leave a potential customer wondering, this will risk them looking further afield. When they make that all important enquiry to us , lets ensure it’s a quality enquiry based on all the initial information provided.

4.APPEARANCE IS EVERYTHING!

It may sound obvious but ensure the boat is Clean, Tidy and Presented at it’s best at all times.

Thoroughly clean the interior and exterior and make any repairs as buyers want the reassurance that the boat has been well maintained and looked after.

5.PRESENTATION!

When the boat is looking its best, quality photographs that represent this are essential. We make sure there are no unwanted items in a shot and pay attention to the smallest detail. Weather and Location are important. Clean bright photos, where you can see all the good qualities of the boat are what will draw buyers in. Buyers love photos of EVERYTHING and if you need to use a few props to enhance the interior – use them.
