Introducing Alan & Mary Tatton who, in 2012, established the International Yacht Brokerage, Langkawi Boat Sales & Services Sdn Bhd at Rebak Island Marina, Langkawi, Malaysia.
In 2003 Alan retired after a long career as a professional boat-builder.The Tatton’s Company, Venturer Catamarans, built 36’, 38’ and 44’ power catamarans and employed a large staff at their production facility in Queensland, Australia. Venturer Catamarans were Sold throughout Australia and the USA . Mary, as Marketing Manager, was involved on a day by day basis with Sales and Management, traveling many times to the USA to attend major Boat Shows at Annapolis, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Together Al & Mary un-shipped and delivered several boats from Savannah to Miami, Philadelphia to Annapolis and Ft Lauderdale to the Bahamas.
Al, a New Zealander, has been sailing competitively since age eleven years and he competed in most major Offshore Yacht Races out of NZ including the inaugural Tauranga – Port Vila in 1976, Auckland – Tonga and Whangarei – Noumea races and many other delivery trips throughout the Pacific. In 1976 he sailed on Rhythm from New Zealand – Sydney and competed in that years disastrous Sydney–Hobart Race sailing back across the Tasman to New Zealand in 1977
In 1980 Al again crossed the Tasman, with his family this time aboard Aumoana, a 42’ cutter he built in NZ after he sold his company Offshore Marine – a very successful Volvo-Penta and Glastron Dealer-Ship and Marine Chandlery which Alan had founded.
From 1981 Aumoana cruised the Australian East Coast,Noumea – Vanuatu, Santa Cruz, Solomon Is and Louiseades to Cairns before being sold in 1988 when Al once more crossed the Tasman and delivered Auomana to New Zealand.
Mary and Al lived aboard their 56’ Crowther Catamaran INVESTIGATOR II for nine years. Initially cruising the Australian coast extensively between Sydney and Darwin, before exploring SE Asia including many of the islands of Indonesia and then venturing on to Malaysia and Thailand as far as the Burmese border.
In 2011 Investigator II sailed to Singapore, East Malaysia, Tioman Is., Perhentian Is. and across the South China Sea to the beautiful city of Kuching in Borneo. They spent several months cruising Borneo and enjoying the delights of Brunei, Miri, Labuan & Kota Kinabalu before returning to Langkawi, Malaysia where they have now made Rebak Island Marina their home.
Alain & Frederique Fontaine have also been cruising for many, many years. While living on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, Alain utilized his invaluable experience providing sailing lessons in the yacht club there and undertaking several trans ocean deliveries for charter companies. The Fontaine family eventually set sail on their own boat with their young son onboard. They cruised the Indian Ocean and SE Asia extensively before purchasing their present yacht, OUMA 3, in Taiwan and sailing her back to Langkawi – through a Typhoon!.
Alain and Frederique presently liveabord OUMA 3 in Rebak Marina, Langkawi.
